Located around the shimmering clear blue water
lakes, Udaipur also know as the Lake City of India
is a delightful blend of sights, sounds and experiences.
Carrying a distinct identity of being a romantic
city, Udaipur is an inspiration for the imagination
of the poets, painters and writers....."
The exquisitely carved marble palaces, impressively
laid out gardens and the beautiful blue lakes
make Udaipur seem almost like a mirage in the
desert.
City Palace - UdaipurEstablished by Maharana
Udai Singh, who on the advice of a holy man
shifted his capital to the banks of Lake Pichola,
and named it after his name - Udaipur. Udaipur
not only offers an array of tourist attractions,

Jagdeesh Temple : Close to the City Palace
is the Jagdish Temple which displays some commanding
sculpted figures and elaborately ornamented interiors.
At a short distance is the Sahelion-ki-Bari or
the Garden of Maidens which has four pools and
delicately carved kiosks and elephants in marble.
Built in the early 18th century, this is now a
popular tourist spot.
Jag Mandir : Commenced by
Maharana Karan Singh, the island palace takes
its name from Maharana Jagat Singh who had made
a number of additions to it. The island has
an impressive chhatri (cenotaph) carved from
grey blue stone and is flanked by a row of enormous
stone elephants. It is believed that Prince
Khurram (later Shah Jahan) was given refuge
here when he was leading a revolt against his
father Jehangir. From the balconies, you get
a superb view of the lake and the city.
Fateh Sagar : Fateh Sagar is
a beautiful lake which was constructed in 1678,
lies to the north of Lake Pichola. This lake was
built by Maharana Fateh Singh, is overlooked by
a number of hills on three sides and the Pratap
Memorial on the north. The east bank of the lake
has a pleasant drive along it. In the middle of
the lake is Nehru Park—a lovely garden island
that has a boat-shaped restaurant in it. The island
can be accessed only by boat.
Ahar : Archaeological ruins that date
back to 4000 B.C. are found here. A museum stands
next to the excavation site. Also of interest
are the beautiful cenotaphs of kings near the
Gangabhairu tank. |
